History
There is written evidence of horse racing dating back to the third century when chariot races were held at the 'Cuireach' - Gaelic word for racecourse, on the lands known today as the Curragh. Little has changed over all the centuries as the Curragh is still home of Irish horse racing.
The Curragh Training Ground is a world class facility spreading over 1,500 acres with numerous gallops of the highest standard ranging from a variety of all weather surfaces to traditional grass and peat gallops.
The gallops are maintained and open 365 days a year in order to provide the best facilities to trainers. We are acutely aware of the value and potential attached to each Thoroughbred horse and therefore the Curragh Training Grounds provide a level of service to allow these horses to be competitive on an international level.
Horses Trained on the Curragh have won major races world wide in countries as diverse as England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, America, Canada, and Australia with both 1993 Melbourne Cup winner Vintage Crop, and Media Puzzle, winner of the same race in 2002 both trained by Dermot Weld on the Curragh.
